Harry Venning is an award-winning cartoonist, comedy writer and performer based in Brighton.
Harry’s cartoons have appeared in publications as diverse as Mathematics Today, Radio Times, Music Teacher and The Stage. For 25 years he provided The Guardian with the weekly strip cartoon Clare In The Community, about an unaware and empathy free social worker. In 2004 he developed Clare In The Community into a successful BBC Radio 4 which ran for twelve series and won the Sony Award for comedy.
When not at a desk, Harry tours his cartoon workshop Release Your Inner Cartoonist around schools, theatres, arts centres and festivals.
Cartoons are great and so are cartoonists. Become part of this elite branch of the arts at this interactive HOUR at Brighton Summit.
You’ll learn how to transform a flat piece of paper into a riot of laughs, an explosion of adventure, a cacophony of sound and a gobsmack of disbelief. All shot through with the real emotion that comes from drawing eyebrows in just the right position.
Discover the many uses of the humble asterisk, how to do a caricature, when to use a speech bubble and what the Eskimo brothers said to each other in my favourite joke ever.
There will be laughs, there will be tears, there will be ventriloquism (of sorts).
