Dr Rodrigo Aviles-Espinosa is a senior lecturer in optoelectronics and robotics at the school of engineering and informatics. Before that, he spent more than 15 years working for multiple international health-tech companies.
He has developed pioneering research in laser systems design for biomedical and metrology applications.
Dr Aviles-Espinosa currently leads a multidisciplinary group working on the development of surgical tools combining ultrashort pulsed supercontinuum laser technologies and high precision robotic systems for microsurgical applications.
Everybody’s talking about robots and this HOUR will give you a real insight into the benefits they will bring to humankind in the future.
This is a rare opportunity to peek behind the scenes at the Sussex Robotics and mechatronics research group. The group’s ultimate aim is to develop systems which will solve real-world challenges in industry, agriculture, healthcare and emerging technologies.
You’ll enjoy a mix of talks and demonstrations as you visit the labs where this groundbreaking research takes place. Demos include one showing robot-assisted rehabilitation and exercise for patients with upper limb dysfunctions.
