Our keynote speaker Angela Gallop holds the key to unlocking many secrets from the past.
Angela has been a forensic scientist for nearly half a century. She’s worked for the Home Office Forensic Science Service and also established several consultancies and laboratories of her own. She specialises in complex and cold cases, including the Damilola Taylor, Rachel Nickell and Stephen Lawrence murders.
In more recent times, Angela co-founded Axiom International which provides security and justice services, mainly on behalf of the UK Government, to fragile and conflict-affected countries. She is Visiting Professor at the UK’s first academic Centre for Forensic Science at Strathclyde University and was awarded a CBE for services to forensic science in the 2015.
Angela has written two books on forensic science and was recently appointed Co-chair of the new Westminster Commission on Forensic Science.
Angela Gallop is the forensic scientists’ forensic scientist; the forensic scientist of her generation. After hitting her head on the glass ceiling of the Home Office Forensic Science Service, Angela became a serial entrepreneur, bootstrapping and scaling-up three, multi-million-pound forensic science businesses. She developed an expertise and a reputation for solving cold cases – criminal investigations, usually of murders, that foxed everyone…but Angela. From Rachel Nickell to Roberto Calvi, Damilola Taylor to Stephen Lawrence – each case was solved by Angela and her teams.
In this inspiring and deeply human chat, data storyteller Sam Knowles will ask keynote speaker Angela to explore and explain the meaning of the maxim of the founding father of forensic science, Edmond Locard, who observed: “Every contact leaves a trace”.
